10th Annual MLK RTV PosterThis year’s theme: Black Women: Voices of Trauma, Visions of Transformation

Redeeming the Prophetic Vision is an interfaith service that has become an annual event for Tacoma, highlighting Dr. King’s progressive and prophetic oratory.  The event  complements other traditional events celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day around the city. The focal point of this service will be oratory addressing elements of King’s prophetic vision complemented with the arts: music, drama, dance and other forms of creative presentations–all highlighting the issues of peace, justice and opportunity for all…the prophetic vision of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Redeeming the Prophetic Vision 2016 Interfaith Service will be again at Urban Grace – The Downtown Church on Sunday, January 17th, 2016 from 2 pm to 3 pm, with a reception to follow afterward.  The event aims to recognize the vision of Dr. King by presenting a program that distinguishes itself with an edge of social justice in it’s message.  It is open to the general public and is free of charge.  The church is located at 902 Market Street, Tacoma, WA 98402.  The phone number at the church is 253 272 2184 .  This event is organized by a partnership of The Conversation, Associated Ministries, and Urban Grace Church.

Varied faith traditions will be represented.  On this, the tenth year of the event, the event will feature a keynote speaker and will honor all of the previous recipients of the awards ceremony for the Civil Rights Honor Roll, which has been for social justice leadership, acknowledging their enduring and varied continuous activities of service in Tacoma. Throughout the event, local performances will be featured.  Following the activities in the parish, social justice organizations will be providing information and sharing ideas from tables in the lower level of the church.  Free food will be served.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Redeeming the Vision project is a product of The Conversation.  Part if the event mission is to address social malaise in the redeeming of Dr. King’s vision.  To quote him: “Our only hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit and go into a sometimes hostile world declaring eternal hostility to poverty, racism, and militarism.”
