Description: Complete client intakes and needs assessment. Help clients obtain needed documentation for stabilization such as identification cards, birth certificates, and social security cards. Assist clients in applying for DSHS benefits such as food assistance, cash benefits, medical assistance, childcare subsidies, long-term care services and drug and alcohol treatment. Help clients locate and access community resources in Pierce County such as food banks, emergency housing, counseling, clothing, and job training.

Time Commitment: 10-12 hours per week

Description: Can use volunteer help with greeting people for their appointments and assisting them with completing their paper work.

  • Coordinated Entry voicemail: Checking and transcribe voicemail to call log. The volunteer needs to be very detail oriented, great with data entry and comfortable with the phone and computer.  Time Commitment: 30 minutes daily.
  • Appointment reminders: Contact scheduled clients with Coordinated Entry to remind them of appointments or rescheduling appointments if client needs to reschedule when reminder calls are made.  The volunteer needs to have good phone etiquette and feel comfortable with the phone and computer.  Time Commitment: 1 hour a daily.
  • Coordinated Entry Clerical Support: Assist with filing closed files, shredding, faxing, scanning, and printing.  The volunteer needs to be detailed oriented.  Time Commitment: 1-2 hours a week.
  • Coordinated Entry Client Callback: Returning phone calls of those seeking rental or utility assistance and providing resources for those services.  The volunteer needs to have good phone etiquette and feel comfortable with the phone and computer.  Time Commitment: 1-3 hours a week.
  • Coordinated Entry Resource Research: Call various resources in community such as religious based transitional housing, finding out criteria for these programs, and if applicable notifying Coordinated Entry staff of openings.  The volunteer needs to be detail oriented and feel comfortable with the phone and computer.  

Time Commitment: 1-5 hours a week.

Description: All of the programs and services would not be possible without the support of staff and volunteers who provide:

  • Database Support: Update contact records in our database using the internet and/or direct phone calls and record any changes;
  • Clerical Support: Filing, bulk mail production, etc.
  • Financial Management: day-to-day tasks, as well as project-specific tasks.

Time Commitment: Varies

Description: Volunteers paint houses of low-income, senior and disabled homeowners. Training, materials and guidance provided. Experience with painting helpful but not required.

Time Commitment: Seasonal (June – Sept.); days and hours vary; locations in Tacoma and Lakewood.

Description: Volunteers prepare income tax returns free of charge for low-income households.  No experienced required; free training provided. Volunteers should be comfortable using computers and numbers, and able to provide good customer service.

Time Commitment: Seasonal (January – April); days and hours vary; locations throughout Pierce County.  Volunteers typically serve about 4 hours per week.
