WORKSHOP #2: Indian Boarding Schools
- Developed and presented by Irvin Porter, Pastor, Church of the Indian Fellowship
- Tuesday, February 22, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time
- Examines the history, circumstances, and present-day impact of the American Indian Residential
Schools, which were established in the United States from the mid 17th to the early 20th
centuries with a primary objective of “civilizing” or assimilating Native American children and youth into Euro-American culture. Long condemned as a form of cultural genocide,
many of these schools were operated by Christian churches of various denominations.
