
US Japan Sister Cities: 75 Years of Peace since Hiroshima and Nagasaki

City of Tacoma’s Sister Cities is proud to share information about two upcoming gatherings around the 75-years of Peace since the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Faith communities and individuals are asked to ring church bells, gongs, bowls, etc 75 times on one/both of the dates and times listed below.
Wednesday, Aug 5 Interfaith Ceremony (outdoor), 4:00 p.m.
Center for Spiritual Living, Tacoma, 206 N J St.
Ring bells at 4:15 p.m.
Saturday, Aug 8 Ceremony and Peace Walk (outside), 6:30 p.m.
Center for Spiritual Living, Tacoma, 206 N J St.
Ring bells at 7:02 p.m.
Ceremony includes:
*Music by Steve and Kristi Nebel who traveled with a peace delegation under the leadership of Father Bischel several years ago. On that visit, *Father Bix apologized for the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
*Poetry reading by Lucas Smiraldo
*Yoshie Wong (sharing) about her mother seeing the flash in the sky at Nagasaki,
*Bell ringing
*Peace meditation walk to Wright Park

Faith communities and individuals are encouraged to video or photograph the bell ringing experience. These photos and videos will be compliled to create a gift to our Japanese sister city.
