East Pierce Community Leadership Forum

East Pierce Community Leadership is a community forum for all faith leaders, or their representatives, to meet, discuss and share ideas on how to strengthen and protect our families and our community. Faith leaders of all denominations in Eastern Pierce County Washington, and surrounding area are invited. We also welcome any civic community organization and business leaders who would like to develop an interface with these community representatives.

We meet monthly at the Sumner Library in the Sumner Room

Scholar-in-residence Rabbi Rachel Sabath Beit-Halachmi will speak on “Are We Still One? Jewish Peoplehood in the 21st Century.”

  • Saturday, March 12 at 7:30 pm – “Auschwitz vs. Sinai: Jewish Identity in a Post-Holocaust World”
  • Sunday, March 13 at 10:30 am – “The Future of Jewish Leadership: What Really Matters?”

Rabbi Sabath is the National Director of Recruitment and Admissions, President’s Scholar and Director of the Office of Community Engagement at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Prior to this appointment, Rabbi Sabath served as Vice President of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Israel. For over a decade as a member of the Institute’s faculty, she directed the Hartman Lay leadership, Rabbinic leadership, and Christian leadership programs. Ordained at HUC-JIR in New York in 1995, Rabbi Sabath also earned a Ph.D. in Jewish philosophy from the Jewish Theological Seminary writing her dissertation on the covenant theology of Rabbi Prof. Eugene Borowitz. She has co-authored two books and contributed chapters to The Women’s Haftarah Commentary: New Insights and Jewish Theology in our Time.
