Why “Happy Holidays” in December?

Interfaith Unity FB Cover

Did you know that between November 1st and January 15th, there are approximately 29 holidays observed by 7 of the world’s major religions? Many different faith traditions celebrate and observe events every December. This year (see below) is no different. In the spirit of inclusion, we say “Happy Holidays” to you and yours, however you may celebrate!

December 2025 Religious Observances/Holidays

December 8 – Bodhi Day (Buddhism): holiday that commemorates the enlightenment of Siddhartha Gautama (the historical Buddha) under the Bodhi tree.

December 14-22 – Hanukkah (Judaism): an eight-day Jewish holiday that commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of a single day’s worth of oil burning for eight days.

December 21 – Yule (Wicca/NeoPagan): an ancient pagan festival, with Germanic origins, celebrating the winter solstice and the return of the sun’s light and warmth.

December 25 – Christmas (Christian): holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

December 26 – Zarathosht No Diso (Zoroastrian):  death anniversary of the Prophet Zarathushtra. Although this day is an occasion of sadness, there is an eternal optimism at the heart of Zoroastrian belief which shines through even the darkest of days such as this.
