MTI Creates Smiles for our Neighbors in Need
We at AM are focused on providing a continuum of care for our houseless neighbors, but the reality of the situation is that without partners like Medical Teams International we would be unable to provide that holistic care. Our houseless neighbors are, understandably, often times left without the proper medical care that we all require from time to time. This includes access to reliable and affordable dental care that can help to alleviate immediate pain and fix small issues before they turn into a life-threatening illness. A Hope Home study, published by the National Library of Medicine, found that 57%* of people experiencing homelessness over the age of 50 were missing more than half of their teeth. That same study also found that almost half of the studies’ participants hadn’t had access to a dentist for over 5 years. The clients Associated Ministries works with on a daily basis are no exception to the lack of dental care, and that is why we are beyond excited that Medical Teams International (MTI) has agreed to send its mobile dental van to provide dental services onsite three times this year, and an additional time at our upcoming Project Homeless Connect event!
