Attendees of the December Community Quarterly Meeting Step Up!

CQM Hands
The fourth and final Community Quarterly Meeting of 2018 was the most energetic gathering of people of faith and social goodwill so far! People were engaged. People owned their meeting, which was truly inspirational.
The 71 people in attendance on Dec. 13 spent time finalizing the goals and objectives for these gatherings in 2019.  All the workgroups were energized, ready to provide feedback and make the plan their own.
The members of the newly formed CQM Steering Committee also were introduced: Caryn Bell-Palo, Pastor of Harbor Christian Church; Jeffrey Boyce, Missioner for Homeless/Pierce County, Diocese of Olympia; Jesus Villegas, Support Specialist at Clover Park School District; Rev. Dr. J.R. Hughes D.D., Founder/CEO of Christian Associates Network; Minister Lee Rice, long-time AM volunteer; Diane Doherty, member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church.
We then heard from Ken Miller, founder of DaduHomes, a social enterprise company that seeks to help congregations or nonprofits build small cottages on their property for the purpose of providing affordable housing. For further information, please contact Ken at krm403@gmail.com.  (There is also further information about this project in the link to the presentation below).
A very special acknowledgement goes to the officials representing the city, county and state who attended:
  • Keith Blocker, Tacoma City Councilmember
  • Connie Ladenberg, Pierce County Councilmember
  • Jeannie Darneille, Washington State Senator for District 27
What an honor and testament from our elected leaders to recognize the importance of this work.  We are encouraged!
A special thanks goes to everyone who attended the December CQM.  What a joy it is to see so many dedicated and passionate people eager to mobilize and impact homelessness in our community!
We look forward to seeing everyone again on March 21st from 5-7pm at the Oasis of Hope Center, 1937 South G Street, which will be our new location for the entire year.  Thanks to Bishop Prentis Johnson for graciously offering us this space.
