MLK’s vision of social justice included religious pluralism – a house of many faiths
Roy Whitaker, Associate Professor of Black Religions and American Religious Diversity, San Diego State University writes (3/30/23), “In an age of polarization, it is worth remembering that one of the pillars of King’s philosophy was pluralism: the idea of multiple communities engaging one another, acknowledging their differences and shared bonds, and striving to create what King called a “Beloved Community.”
As an African American philosopher who studies comparative religion, I am especially interested in what role religious pluralism played in King’s fight for civil rights in the United States of America and human liberation around the world.”
Here at AM, we keep the words of Dr. King close. Our Mission: To inspire and mobilize communities of faith and goodwill to reduce poverty and homelessness, while centering equity and advocating for system change. We seek equity and wholeness for our beloved community.
