Sandra Turns to the AM Rapid Re-Housing Team for Help

Associated Ministries Rapid Re-Housing Team is Making a Difference!

by Alexis Agee-Cooper, AM Housing Counselor

Sandra* packed up herself and her two teenage daughters and drove across the country to flee domestic violence.  She was a broken and lost woman when she came to her Rapid Rehousing appointment. She just wanted a safe and stable home for her daughters to flourish.child 2

Throughout the time I worked with Sandra I met with her in different locations that were convenient for her.  Providing gas vouchers, screening fee’s for apartments and, most importantly, to sit with her and encourage and cheer her on.  I made referrals for domestic violence support services and to the Launch Employment Assistance Program (LEAP).

Tentative dayislandSandra’s primary concern was to make sure her girls made it to school every day even though they were living in their car.

After months of applying for jobs she found a great job in the transportation industry.  With the assistance of the Rapid Rehousing program Sandra received assistance with her move-in costs and first month’s rent. Sandra is now close to taking over her own rent. Both of her girls made it on the honor roll at school–they received the highest grades in their class.
