Gain Hope About Homelessness at June 20 Community Meeting

When we face difficulties in our own lives, we look for signs of hope to keep us going.  The fact that 10,000 households are currently experiencing homelessness in our community is a big challenge for which we need to find hope.

A helpful first step can be to seek knowledge about such challenges.  Through educating ourselves we can discover what we can do to make a difference.  It will take every one of us learning and seeking what our roles can be to experience the hope that homelessness can be solved.

Such journeys are not easy, but by working together all things are possible!

In that spirit we encourage you to join us at the next Community Quarterly Meeting, to be on Thursday, June 20 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Oasis of Hope Center, 1937 South G Street, Tacoma.  It will be a room filled with hope!  Register (free!) here.

The speakers scheduled to present will encourage us with information, testimonies and advocacy allowing us all to make informed choices as we navigate how we can be a source of hope in our community.

Speakers on June 20 include:

  • Jeff Rodgers, Supervisor of Homeless Programs for Pierce County – Jeff will present interesting findings from the April 2019 Point in Time Count of those experiencing homelessness in Pierce County.
  • James Pogue, Director of Homeless Outreach for Comprehensive Life Resources – James will provide a reality-based scenario of the challenges individuals face while experiencing homelessness.  He will share success stories as well as what we, as members of the faith community, can do to better understand the factors that often result in homelessness.
  • Ted Brackman, Homeless Advocate and Counselor – Ted is a well-known homeless advocate in our community, particularly in the Puyallup area.  From his unique vantage point of fighting homelessness on the frontlines with a moral lens, he’ll share tangible steps to move our community towards making housing for all a priority.
  • We will also hear a report from the Community Quarterly Meeting’s Moral Voice Advocacy

We look forward to seeing everyone at this next meeting as we work together to make a difference for those experiencing homelessness in our community.
