Corporate philanthropy programs are an untapped resource for providing financial assistance to charitable organizations across the country, and more importantly, here in our own backyard.  More and more companies are creating social responsibility programs to designate funds to organizations in which their employees volunteer and support. One example is TrueBlue, an international staffing company headquartered in Tacoma. They channel their vision of addressing major social problems into their core business strategy through their corporate citizenship program called GroundWorks. This program provides cash grants to organizations that help prepare the workforce for the future.

And TrueBlue isn’t alone. Organizations throughout Pierce County have corporate funding available for charitable organizations that are important to their employees. But they can’t fund what they don’t know about. We must take initiative and ask for it.

So that’s what I did. The GroundWorks online application took less than 10 minutes to complete. A few weeks later, I received a check made out to Associated Ministries for $2,500. WOW! It was that simple.
